LANSING – The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) recently has named State Representative Andy Dillon (D-Redford) legislator of the year for his efforts in strengthening the state's industrial climate.
The Legislator of the Year award is MMA's highest legislative honor presented to a state representative or senator who has provided important and essential leadership in manufacturing issues during his or her public policy career.
Dillon was chosen because of his work in creating the 21st Century Jobs Fund, which will use $2 billion from state and private funds to diversify Michigan's economy by creating jobs and supporting innovation and research in the fields of homeland security, high-tech automotive, alternative energy and life sciences.
"I am extremely honored to receive this award from an incredible organization that put manufacturers first and foremost," Dillon said. "Our state highly depends on the manufacturing industry and I will continue to bring about change for the greater good of the industry. I will continue to fight for jobs and provide our residents with the tools they need to perform in these high-tech, competitive jobs of the future."
The MMA's Government Affairs Advisory Committee chose Dillon for the award. He will be honored at the MMA Legislative & Executive Reception. The reception was held Tuesday, May 9, at the Country Club of Lansing.
MMA represents thousands of businesses and corporations throughout the state, which collectively employ 90 percent of Michigan's industrial work force.
