LANSING – House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.) today invited nonprofits in Dearborn Heights, Livonia and Redford Township to apply for technology enhancement grants available through AT&T Inc.'s philanthropic arm.
"This grant offers a tremendous opportunity to help community groups use technological innovations to build stronger communities in Wayne County and a stronger Michigan statewide," Dillon said. "In this 21st century global economy, keeping up with the latest technology is essential for all businesses and organizations, whether they are nonprofit or for-profit. I encourage our local nonprofit organizations to take advantage of this opportunity."
The AT&T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc., is now accepting applications for the 2007 AT&T Excelerator competitive technology grant program. This multi-million dollar grant program is designed to help nonprofit organizations integrate technology into their operations and community outreach. Resources may include hardware, software and Internet access, among others.
AT&T Excelerator addresses a variety of community needs in four program areas: Education, Community Development, Health and Human Services, and Arts and Culture.
Interested groups can visit www.att.com/foundation to download a copy of the 2007 AT&T Excelerator grant application. The deadline for completing the grant applications is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2007.
"Technology brings together communities in a way people never thought possible even 15 years ago," Dillon said. "While nonprofit organizations play a critical role in our communities, they often lack the financial resources to invest in technological advances. Grant programs can help nonprofits better serve our residents."
