LANSING – House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.) today announced the passage of a supplemental budget for Fiscal Year 2006-07. The supplemental budget awards about $167 million in funding for airport improvement projects, which will fuel economic development across Michigan. About $137 million will come from federal funding.
"Infrastructure improvement is key to rebuilding Michigan's economy," Dillon said. "This is a positive step toward moving Michigan forward."
Airport improvement projects stretch across Michigan, and include $37.5 million for Detroit Metro airport to
reconstruct runways and provide noise insulation. Capital City Airport in Lansing will receive about
$15 million,
Flint Bishop Airport will receive more than $10 million, Gerald Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids will receive
about $9 million and Northwestern Regional Airport in Traverse City will receive $2 million.
The supplemental budget also protects funding for state troopers, human services and the Department of Corrections.
"This supplemental budget will keep our law enforcement officials on the street and our prisoners behind bars, keeping our communities safe," Dillon said.
The legislation passed 64-41, with five abstaining.
