LANSING – House Speaker Andy Dillon today was easily re-elected House Speaker after leading the House Democrats to an astounding nine-seat pick up on Tuesday. State Representative Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) was elected Majority Floor Leader and State Representative Pam Byrnes (D-Lyndon Township) was elected Speaker Pro Tempore today by their colleagues; their terms begin when the 95th Legislature convenes in January.
"I'm thrilled that Representative Angerer and Representative Byrnes were elected to their respective leadership positions," Dillon said. "The people of Michigan will benefit from their exemplary work ethic and dedication to moving Michigan forward. House Democrats are focused on the task ahead of creating more good-paying jobs for our workers, bringing tax relief to our businesses and homeowners, and get our economy back on track."
As part of her duties as Majority Floor Leader, Angerer will have a role in deciding the legislation that will be put to a vote on the floor of the Michigan House.
"I'm honored that my colleagues have chosen me to be Majority Floor leader," Angerer said. "We have a lot of hard work to do to get Michigan headed in the right direction. We're going to hit the ground running and keep moving forward to make Michigan a leader in the 21st century global economy."
As part of her duties as Speaker Pro Tempore, Byrnes will run the Chamber from the rostrum and keep the legislative process moving during House Session.
"We are at a crossroads here in Michigan and there is a lot of work to do to get our state turned around," Byrnes said. "I'm honored to have received a vote of confidence from my colleagues in the House. House Democrats have been fighting to make Michigan a great place to live, work and raise a family, and that's what we will continue to do over the next two years."
