House Dems Submit COVID-19 Nursing Home Hub Recommendations
Lansing, Mich., May 15, 2020 — Gov. Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-84 to continue protecting residents and staff in long-term care facilities and extends order 2020-50 until May 20. State Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) led a Democratic workgroup to make recommendations to improve conditions in Michigan’s nursing homes. Those recommendations were presented to the governor’s office yesterday.
“We appreciate the work of our governor during this pandemic and want to partner with her to combat and control the impact of COVID-19,” Love said. “My colleagues and I have come up with some common-sense recommendations to better ensure the health and well-being of seniors living in long-term care facilities. We strongly urge the governor to take up our recommendations and look forward to working with her going forward.”
The Democratic workgroup includes state Reps. Laurie Pohutsky (D-Livonia), Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham), Cynthia Neeley (D-Detroit), Kyra Bolden (D-Southfield), Lori Stone (D-Warren) and Joe Tate (D-Detroit). The group met on Wednesday with the Department of Health and Human Services and other critical departments before solidifying their recommendations to present to the governor.
